NEW INTERVIEW WITH TOKEN ENTRY'S JOHNNY STEIGERWALD

"We played A7 with Kraut on November 12th,1982. Details are fuzzy. I think we went on about 10pm. I was the oldest in the band. I was 16. So some conniving went on to fool our parents but that was par for the course for us to even see A7 shows in general".

NEW INTERVIEW WITH IGNITE'S FOUNDING MEMBER AND BASSIST BRETT RASMUSSEN

“We didn’t have a singer when we got our first tour offer, so we started auditioning all these guys. Zoli was seriously the last guy we were going to audition. He was a friend of our former guitar player. When he came in the rehearsal room and we started playing the first song, we all stopped playing halfway through the first song, it was pretty apparent that the guy had a ridiculous voice and he could sing in time, and he was on key and good at projecting. At that point, I kind of thought the sky was the limit with Ignite.”

NEW BREED DOCUMENTARY MAKES PHILADELPHIA SCREENING DEBUT THIS SUNDAY

New York Hardcore was undergoing a transition at the end of the '80s and this generational shift was exemplified by the bands that were featured on the now classic cassette compilation New Breed. The story of the tape is at heart the story of NYC and the kids who grew up in its five boroughs as well as related outposts in Long Island/Yonkers. A unique set of social/economic circumstances during the '70s and '80s forged the individuals that went on to make up the legendary New York Hardcore scene.

This full length documentary profiles the band members, fanzine editors, record label heads, and fans that made up this vibrant scene. It's unheard of for a feature film to focus on an outdated analog format like a cassette compilation, but it is through the eyes of these individuals that a spotlight is shined onto those tumultuous times and what is ultimately a tribute to a bygone era. Click above image for screening details.

THE NYHC CHRONICLES FILM GETTING CLOSER TO COMPLETION

“The New York Hardcore Chronicles Film” which is still in the works could be out by this coming December. The film, which is the brainchild of Antidote frontman and filmmaker Drew Stone, will deliver slices and chunks of NYHC in an “episodic” way that covers the old and the new featuring interviews with many of NY’s main players, including Agnostic Front’s Roger Miret and Vinnie Stigma, Freddy Madball, Ray Of Today Cappo, Civ, Sick Of It All’s Lou Koller, Mike Judge, Harley Flannigan and dozens more. The film should run approximately two hours, featuring live clips and photos spanning 1979 to the present. Follow the NYHC Chronicles Facebook page to keep on top of updates and the film’s actual release date as soon as it becomes available.

A BREED APART DEBUT NEW TRACK “HARDCORE STRONG”

NY’s A Breed Apart are currently working on their first full length which they expect to have released later in 2016. For now you can check out one of their new tracks titled “Hardcore Strong” and look out for a “Fresh Blood” feature with the band here on In Effect in the upcoming months. Click HERE for new music. COVERAGE OF THE BLAST FURNACE PRODUCTIONS BENEFIT SHOW FOR OUR VETERANS

PHOTOS BY: RICH ZOELLER & MATTIS PHOTO

MURPHY'S LAW, INHUMAN, ENRAGE, REASON ENOUGH, ACHE, LOW ROAD & 8 MORE BANDS!

Above photo: Murphy's Law by: Mattis Photo

On Saturday February 27th Blast Furnace Productions along with 14 bands from the underground/hardcore scene came together to put on a benefit show to help the Purple Heart Foundation which assists combat veterans. Lucky 13 Saloon in Brooklyn was the venue and the second you walk through the door you know you’re in a spot that caters to heavy music with death metal posters and horror movie themed items all over from the floor up to its high ceiling and yes those were girls dancing on the bar in their G-strings. The lineup had a good mix of bands who have been around for a while like Inhuman, Enrage, and Reason Enough to newer bands like Enziguri and A Breed Apart who literally tore the roof off of Lucky 13. Ache and Full Scale Riot were standouts as well. The show ran throughout the afternoon and into the early AM with Jimmy G and Murphy’s Law closing things out well after midnight. All in all over 4 grand was collected and donated to the Purple Heart Foundation who had some of their people in attendance and at one point got up on the stage to thank the crowd and Blast Furnace for not forgetting about our veterans and for the support. A few days later Blast Furnace posted some photos of them presenting the check in person to the foundation.

NEW DEMO FROM VINNY HOOLIGANZ OUT SOON!

Vinny Hooliganz just finished laying tracks for a demo which should be out this spring. The band has some familiar faces in Vinny Panza on guitar/vocals and Vinnie Value on drums. Panza you may know from drums in Youth Of Today, Bold and 45 Revolutions, and Value you may remember from Warzone, Grey Area, and of course No Redeeming Social Value among many others. Brian Wallace plays guitar and Christian Lovrich from Long Island’s Strongpoint on bass. The sound they are putting out may be the biggest surprise here considering the band members’ previous efforts. Their own bio sums things up perfectly as it states “Punk inspired Rock N Roll songs written/performed/recorded by an old school hardcore kid with an Oi!-heavy record collection.” Find out more about them by clicking on their band photo.
