Unfortunately NY’s Abject! have called it quits after an almost 3 year run. The band still has their “Ugly On The Inside” album recorded and on the way in or around late March via Dead City Records and let’s hope that still happens as it is their best work to date. In the meantime you can get more details on the split via a letter that singer Jamie Hamma recently posted. (Click on the band photo to read it).

R.I.P. JOHN BARLOW: SINGER FOR PA'S ANIMALHAUS

This is the second update in a row with the passing of someone in the hardcore scene which is really sad. John passed on January 6th and was only 30 years old. There will be a benefit show at Club Reverb in Reading, PA on February 1st, with all proceeds going to John’s son. RIP John.

Strife, Turnstile and Expire are all part of the 10th series of charity t-shirts by Live Shot Charity Tees which is a collaboration between Cold Cuts Merch and Wass Photography and various bands from all over the hardcore scene. As with previous series’ in the past the bands choose where the money will be donated and this time around Strife chose to donate to Hope For Paws which is a non-profit animal rescue organization based in Los Angeles. Turnstile’s will go to two different causes, the first of which is to a friend who has a rare form of Leukemia, and the second is to a band member’s sister who is going to Honduras to help build a school for underprivileged children. Expire’s will go to the Wisconsin Humane Society. 100% of all proceeds go to the listed charities and January 31st is the deadline to order these limited one time prints. This digital only comp features 72 bands for only 10 bucks and includes songs from: Walk The Plank, Abject, Manipulate, Manalive, Zombie Fight, Vexed, Blackout Shoppers, On The Offense, Supreme Commander, Suspect Device and more with all proceeds going to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. INTERVIEW WITH STRIFE GUITARIST ANDREW KLINE

R.I.P. CARL "THE MOSHER" WHO FRONTED SUCH NYHC BANDS AS DYNAMO, THE ICEMEN, & UNDERDOG

Sad news to report from last week as Carl "The Mosher” or sometimes just “Carl Mosher” who fronted such NYHC bands as Dynamo, The Icemen, and Underdog passed away on December 27th at the age of just 43 according to an obituary page. "The Mosher" name stuck to Carl as the pit was where you would find him. Not a ton of people are remembered for their moshing capabilities unless they were there to wreck people but Carl was different and will be remembered as a stand out in that he just had a coolness to him whether moshing it up at a CB's matinee, stage diving or fronting one of the previously mentioned bands. To me Carl's best contribution to the NYHC scene was with The Icemen who put out their often overlooked 4 song EP back in 2001 on Blackout Records. The Icemen were one of those bands who fell through the cracks and never got the recognition that they deserved in my opinion. Many people have posted recently about Carl's passing but the one that stood out the most to me was this one from Brett Beach who used to put out Hardware Zine and is now a contributor to this site as well.

Here is what Brett had to say... “Carl Mosher... can't believe it. I have a few stories about him. When Dynamo was playing CB's once he asked if anyone wanted a free 7". Standing right up front I raised my hand. He bends over and says into my ear, "Mosh for it." and they start a song, so I had to bust it out. I guess I lived up to his standards, because he gave me the 7" after the song.”  RIP Carl. Check out some Icemen by clicking the photo above. MORBULTAD (Sweden)

Sweden’s Morbultad have put out a video teaser to their new 6 song EP which will be out in early February. Morbultad have also recorded another song which will be part of a split 7” with Prayer For Desolation in March.

BEARDOWN (Germany)

Beardown from Siegen, Germany have a 5 song EP coming out on January 17th titled “57 Borderland”. You can check out a teaser video for the track “Misunderstood” below. Beardown started in 2012 and released a demo previous to this new release.

THE ENEMY WITHIN (Boston, USA)

Boston’s The Enemy Within have a new 8 song EP available via Bandcamp after a label they were working with apparently backed out. The new EP is $7 via their Bandcamp page with money going to make the physical versions which the band says they will get to you for free if you download the new EP.

Cali, Columbia’s N.O.F.E. have given us a new single “Conviccion Hardcore” taken from their upcoming album titled “Hecho En Columbia”. The 9 song full length is due to come out in February.

LIFE FOR A LIFE (CA, USA)

Palmdale California’s Life For A Life have signed up with NY’s Innerstrength Records and plan to have a 7”/CD/EP with them in 2014. Life For A Life has 2 EP’s to date including the 4 song “The Otherside” which hit their Bandcamp page on December 17th and is also available through Outlast Records. Look out for Life For A Life on an East Coast tour with NY’s Vice starting on February 26th in Staten Island and ending on March 9th in Baltimore.

I SCREAM RECORDS TO REISSUE MURPHYS LAW COMPLETE DISCOGRAPHY 

I Scream Records will be reissuing the complete Murphy’s Law discography in 2014 starting off with the self-titled Murphy’s Law debut album that came out way back in 1986. This release will come out on January 21st and like all of the reissues will come out in all formats. 5 weeks prior to each reissue there will be special pre-orders that will include limited color run vinyl and exclusive merchandise designs. After the January 21st kickoff the remainder of the releases is as follows: “Back With A Bong” February 18th, “The Best Of Times” March 18th, “Dedicated” April 15th, and “The Party’s Over” May 13th. NY'S LAMENT RELEASE NEW TRACK "MANNEQUINS"

NY’s Lament who formed in 1990 and disbanded in 1995 made a comeback this past summer with a promise of recording new material. They just released a new demo track titled “Mannequins” which highlights the bands post hardcore sound. You may also recognize their guitar player Joe Affe who is the guitarist for Maximum Penalty.
