STRIFE AND 6131 RECORDS JOIN FORCES TO RELEASE "WITNESS A RE-BIRTH" THIS FALL
California’s Strife and 6131 Records have joined forces and will be putting out “Witness A Re-Birth”, the bands first recording in 11 years. With producer Nick Jett (Terror, Rotting Out, Backtrack) at the helm, Strife recruited friend and previous collaborator Iggor Cavalera (founding member of Sepultura) to perform drums for the album and traveled to Brazil to start the recording process with him. Soon after, they returned to California and put the rest of the pieces into place, including guest vocals by Billy Graziadei (of Biohazard) and Scott Vogel (of Terror), plus a guitar solo by Marc Rizzo (of Soulfly). Look for “Witness A Rebirth” this fall on CD/LP/ Digital formats and check out a short trailer for the upcoming album here.

FLASHBACK: POISON IDEA 'FEEL THE DARKNESS'
Usually I remember how I found a band whether it being a friend who was buzzing about a new record, seeing the band play live or in some cases from my local record store guy telling me to "just buy this fucking thing". NO CLUE how I found "Feel The Darkness" but what a find it was. Recently was trolling through the IPOD looking for some old favorites and staring me right in the face is this classic starting off with a short piano introduction leading into the destructive "Plastic Bomb". One regret I have is never having seen these guys play here in NY. For whatever reason it just never happened. There is plenty of back catalog if you are discovering this band for the first time and everyone has their favorites but this is by far my favorite. Read more about them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poison_Idea

REVELATION RECORDS 25TH ANNIVERSARY NYC SHOWS
Early June saw Revelation Records celebrate the 25th anniversary of some of their landmark releases with 4 days of shows in Pomona, CA. The shows featured many of the bands that had releases on the label. It appears now that Revelation will be shifting coasts and bringing some of the same bands (and additional ones) to NYC's Irving Plaza in October. Without much in the way of details the 4 posters you see here were posted to both the Rev website as well as their Facebook page which would imply you will be seeing Chain Of Strength, Texas Is The Reason, Into Another and Crippled Youth/Bold hit the stage. Check in on Rev's page's to keep yourself posted on upcoming info.

BREAKDOWN @ CHAOS IN TEJAS AUSTIN, TX JUNE 1, 2012. ALL PHOTOS BY GRAY MUNCY
Back in 1987 NY's Breakdown put out what I feel is the best hardcore demo ever changing my musical landscape forever. The original lineup parted ways with Carl, Drago and Rich going on to form Raw Deal which later became known as Killing Time. Jeff continued on with Breakdown finding different lineups along the way and putting out some solid releases in the mid 90's. After a hiatus the band announced earlier this year that they would be getting back together with the original '87 demo lineup to play songs from that era and to eventually work on some new ones as well. June 1st was the first show back with the old lineup at the Chaos In Tejas Fest/Gig in Austin Texas. All photos by Gray Muncy. Check out his Flickr account which has the rest of his photos from this show. http://www.flickr.com/photos/birddog14tx/sets/72157630090064586/
REVELATION RECORDS 25 YEAR ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND PHOTOS BY NICOLE C. KIBERT
I am not going out on a ledge when I say that Revelation Records had and still has a HUGE impact on the world of hardcore/punk music. Back in the late 1980's Revelation released a slew of releases that were influential in many ways and helped shape and mold scenes for years to come. Some 25 years later a celebration happened from June 7th through June 10th at the Glass House in Pomona, CA. Below is a small sample of what photographer Nicole C. Kibert saw during this 4 day event. Photographers don't have it easy. They don't always get praise for their hard work, they are looking at the band while arms, legs and feet fly by them, and in general they put A LOT of time into something that usually doesn't quite pay the bills. They all seem to have a passion though for taking photos and without them documenting events like this one would not be quite the same. So show some love to those busting their asses to make your scene a better place. Buy 'em a beer, a soda, a friggin' cookie maybe. I don't know. SUPPORT!

COLD AS LIFE "A DETROIT STORY" DOCUMENTARY
Check out this still unfinished documentary which is looking for funding to be completed.
Narrated by Lars Fredricksen of Rancid, this feature length documentary will explore the decline of Detroit and the parallel reaction it created socially in the music scene of the city. How did the birthplace of Mowtown, a city once called the Paris of the new world, become the most dangerous destination in America? With the parallel decline of Detroit we see the rise of shock rock, a blistering punk movement, the electrifying first wave of post punk / hardcore and finally the brutal and violent second wave of hardcore. Through this time line we discover a real life allegory, and begin to understand the actions, the struggles and general social response from a city of young casualties and the fallen victims there of. Uncovering the truth behind the myth and rumors we will finally bring to light the Scariest, Hardest, most Tragic story in Rock N' Roll. This film will draw upon archival footage, recent interviews, and investigative - style reporting. Featuring interviews with - CTYC, Agnostic Front, Sick of it All, Madball, Hatebreed, Cromags, Murphy's Law, S.B.L.C, Terror, Skarhead, Crown Of Thornz, H8 Inc, Bulldoze, Negative Approach, the Suicide Machines, Earthmover, the Almighty Lumberjacks of Death, Pitbull, Son of Sam/Hillside Stranglers, Heresy, xTYRANTx, and many more. CHECK OUT ABJECT DEAL 28!
NY's own Abject have a pretty cool You Tube page up and running with various rants, opinions, and even interviews done by their singer Jamie Hamma. Abject Deal #28 gives us part 1 of an interview with the one and only Tony Pradlick who was a major force in Record Store history in the Westchester NY area. Tony was behind Rockin' Rex Records which was a major supporter of the In Effect printed version back in the day. Tony opened my eyes to alot of bands that I would never have heard about otherwise. Abject play out constantly and have a damn good CD out titled "Try Again". Pick it up, like 'em on Facebook and check out their You Tube page as well. Support the bands kids! http://www.facebook.com/Abject.NYC
